Runway Critic: Rag & Bone SS13

Fashion Month has started with it’s New York City’s Fashion Week. Amongst the first brands to hit the runway, we’ve taken a closer look at Rag & Bone. Everyday for the next few weeks, you can follow our Pinterest account for looks that caught our eye.

Somehow we’ve been thrown off by this collection. Maybe was it the color range that hinted both at a chill-out with mint and lemonade and at a dimmer afternoon depressed at the office? Anyway, the idea ran through the collection to blow menswear silhouettes out of proportion and then shrink them back into feminity by cutting edges and textures to a smoother allure. However interesting that might be technically, we are not convinced by the very complex layering of pieces characterizing most outfits in Rag and Bone SS13. We’re not suggesting minimalism at all cost, but there is something tricky culturally in the shapes add up together. To put it simply, we think that the only silhouette that is flattering to the women’s body is this beige and black leather trench coat sported with a textured shirt top and this incredibly fresh checkered skrit.
