Proenza Schouler Spring Summer 2013 must have been candy to review for old school fashion experts. Fabrics and colors are thrown in a fuss onto breathtaking contemporary looks. Of course this season by the golden boys of NYC unleashes a huge smack in the face of very first degree designers. The collection has style written all over it. But somehow, our judgement at The Boulevardiers will be quite reserved.
Instead of giving a close look to the fastuous details designed by these incredibly precise hands, we’d rather look at the big picture. Giving in to the rich color palette which is perfectly contemporary as always – with excellent digital details here and there – we are not as convinced by the mondrianesque volumes used in the red theme. That style might have been the step too far taking off some edge to the whole collection as we’d start thinking it’s overdone. Being brightly talented comes as one thing, but showing it off is another and it might become a problem in the future. In the end, we still love the way the near future looks as Proenza Schouler put it. And that’s right enough for now.
